Novenas = 9 Days to Draw Closer to God

Novena prayers or Novenas is a devotion that has a long history in the Church.  The practice is based from the tradition that Mary and the Apostles waited nine days in the Upper Room until the Holy Spirit descended at Pentecost. This was a time of intense prayer, leading to the many graces received at the first Pentecost. Today, novenas are considered to be a set of prayers that are said over a period of nine days. These prayers are often said with a particular intention in mind, but, of course, you can pray them even without praying for anything specific!  Here are some of most popular Novenas.

A novena is a nine-day period of private or public prayer to
obtain special graces, to implore special favors, or to make special
petitions. (Novena is derived from the Latin "novem", meaning nine.) As the
definition suggests, the novena has always had more of a sense of urgency
and neediness.
