Why we Pray The Rosary

Let us start with a little background about the Rosary. We will answer the questions relating to why we pray the rosary, and why we consider it a beautiful and perfect prayer.

Why do we pray the rosary? The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer for one main reason. It summarizes the great story of our salvation. With the Rosary we meditate the mysteries of light(added into the Rosary with the Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae on October 16th, 2002), of joy, of sorrow and the glory of Jesus and Mary. It is a simple and humble prayer just like our Blessed Mother- Mary, yet it is so powerful in creating change and driving away dangers.

Why do we have the connected pattern of beads? The beads are used to help us keep track of our prayers while we meditate on the deeper meaning of the mysteries. Research has shown that the better you get at meditation, especially with prayer, the more you can experience true peace. The whole Rosary is composed of twenty decades. Each decade is recited in honor of a mystery in Jesus's Life and that of his Blessed Mother. We typically recite five decades at a time while meditating on one set of mysteries. We meditate on a mystery within the group of 5 mysteries as we recite the Hail Mary of the decade. The Mysteries of the Rosary are as follows: JOYFUL on Monday and Saturday, LIGHT on Thursday, SORROWFUL on Tuesday and Friday, and GLORIOUS on Wednesday and Sunday. To some it may seem to be a repetitive prayer but instead it is like two sweethearts who utter the beautiful words of "I love you..." to one another.

Why is it important to pray the Rosary? The heavenly Mother has invited us to say the Rosary as a powerful weapon against evil, and to bring us to true peace. With praying the Hail Mary we invite our Lady to pray for us. The more attractive reason for us is that Jesus can never say no to what his Mother asks for.

What does the word Rosary mean?  The word Rosary means "Crown of Roses."

What makes the praying the Rosary so beautiful? Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. How beautiful is that! The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one.

I hope this helps build your understanding of the Rosary. Thank you!
